Dresden, December 11th, 2014. From 10 to 20 million users in half a year: The social discovery app LOVOO seems unstoppable. Champagne glasses clinked in the headquarters Dresden after reaching 20 million users.
The team, numbering 120 people and working in Berlin and Dresden, celebrated with a three-layer cake and a lot of colorful frosting. Manager Björn Bak decided on something at least as colorful: He got a tattoo depicting the company logo on his right forearm.
Courage and self-financing made the successful social discovery app possible
Roughly 5 Mio users are active on the app each month – and each day brings about 50.000 new registrations from the core markets Western Europe and Southern America. Already 50% of all users are from non-German speaking countries and the founders plan on further expansion in 2015. The turnover of the company tripled within one year.
A recent study by Mind Store Marketing with 2.600 participants shows that the frequency of use among students more than doubled in comparison to the year before.
LOVOO and the company’s founders around the two brothers Benjamin & Björn Bak have proven to the start-up world that it is indeed possible to establish an internationally successful company without venture capital. Self-financed, the LOVOO app is the top non-gaming app with the highest turnover in 2014. For next year the founders plan on further international expansion into Western and Eastern Europe.
