FOCUS named LOVOO as Germany’s “Top Employer of 2016”
What a great start to the new year! FOCUS named LOVOO as Germany’s “Top Employer of 2016”. Anja Schulz, Head of Human Resources at LOVOO, told us what is so special about this award in an interview.
FOCUS has given LOVOO the title of “Top Employer of 2016”. What does this mean to you?
The entire team was incredibly happy about it. We announced the great news at Level Up+ – our quarterly company event. It is an honour for us to be named next to other big companies such as Google, eBay and Microsoft. We are also very proud. We want to offer a lot to our employees and always try to give our best. It is all the more satisfying if it is confirmed and rewarded at an official level.
What is it, in your opinion, that makes you stand out as a top employer?
We are a young and dynamic company, in which each individual and the team are equally important. We know that we can only achieve our ambitious goals together. That’s why we have flat hierarchies and teamwork combined with a relaxed working environment. Our enormous premises in the heart of Dresden and Berlin have an open and transparent design. The big roof terrace at our headquarters provides a space for meetings in the fresh air.
To make pleasant and effective work a reality, each employee can select their own technical set-up for their workstation – from hardware and software through to adjustable-height desks. Fresh breakfast and changing lunch options on a daily basis, such as pasta, sushi, soups and tasty fruit, as well as a flat rate for drinks for physical well-being. We also offer our employees the chance to take part in continuous professional development – whether its attending international conferences, workshops or language courses. We also continuously support internal exchange with Hackathons and TechTalks.
We never scrimp on fun at LOVOO. Regular events or company excursions to Gotcha or wakeboarding trips help us to grow even stronger as a team. Whoever needs to clear their mind can always play a round of pool or Xbox with colleagues.
What are the main tasks of the HR team in making all benefits available?
One of our most important tasks in the search for employees that would be a good fit for LOVOO is, of course, recruitment. We find suitable employees and create smart teams. Each new employee undergoes an extensive induction, starting with informative workshops, a welcome package and office tours all the way through to assistance in finding a flat, relocation or getting a visa. We support exchange between our two locations in Berlin and Dresden by providing employees with a second workplace and organise apartments or hotel rooms.
The HR team is not just responsible for new employees, it is also takes care of the existing team. We hold feedback meetings for mutual exchange on a regular basis, assist in personal matters and are the contact partner for feedback and improvement suggestions for the company to help foster continuous development. Another of our tasks is the organisation of individually tailored workshops for the optimisation of social and professional skills. On account of the internationality of our company, we always offer in-house language courses to help make sure that communication is smooth.
What qualities should someone who wants to be a part of LOVOO have?
If someone wants to get off to a flying start, they should be passionate and really enthusiastic about their job. We are looking for team players who give it everything, are willing to take on demanding tasks that require a lot of responsibility and are full of new ideas. Whoever has a soft spot for mobile technology, likes to take on challenging tasks, wants to improve their skills and write stories with us will fit in at LOVOO.
Which departments and positions are currently in need of employees?
As new task areas and positions are popping up due to the LOVOO’s quick growth, we are always on the lookout for talent. New employees are particularly sought after in the departments of Development, Product Management and Marketing. Our currently available positions can be found at
